Oneida County, NY – Richard Hanna was officially endorsed by the Oneida County Republican Committee this week. Hanna is a businessman from Barneveld. GOP Chairman George Joseph said, “I am confident Richard will serve the residents of Oneida county and the 24th Congressional District well. I urge GOP committees across the district to endorse Richard and work tirelessly to see that he is elected. Upstate New York needs leaders like him.”
A graduate of Whitesboro High School in Marcy, NY, Richard went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Political Science from Reed College, and was commended by the Interdisciplinary Committee for “Excellence in Scholarship”.
Hanna is a licensed pilot with high performance and sea plane certifications and volunteers as a co-pilot with Angel Flights providing free transport to the sick and injured in need of long distance transportation.
Hanna’s wife Kim is a Registered Nurse; a bereavement therapist certified by the Association of Death Education and Counseling; and is a licensed mental health therapist. She has worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital and Samaritan Counseling Center, both in Utica, New York. She has most recently worked as an adjunct faculty at Mohawk Valley Community College.
Hanna was born in Utica. As a boy he spent many summers at his grandparents’ dairy farm in Herkimer County and is a lifelong resident of upstate New York. Hanna and his wife Kim reside in Barneveld with their two young children, Emerson and Grace.
Hanna challenged Arcuri in 2008 and nearly beat him. In a huge Democratic year that saw the election of Barack Obama and the Democratic takeover of a super majority in the U.S. Senate, Arcuri was the only Democrat incumbent in the nation that was unable to clearly declare victory on election night. This came as a surprise to many political pundits across the country. It also put a target on Arcuri’s back for this year’s attempt by the GOP to take back the House.
Joseph was joined in his endorsement of Hanna by County Executive Anthony Picente and County Comptroller Joseph Timpano, who both gave their personal endorsements to Hanna.
